ATTIC Theatre Company was commissioned to create an entertainment highlighting the issues of Distraction Burglary. The initial tour to London Boroughs of Ma Kelly's Doorstep in 2002 was an immediate success. Following this, a further show was commissioned looking at Safety in the Home, called Ma Kelly Plays It Safe. We have now performed the two shows 232 times in over two thirds of all London boroughs to 13,000 people and their carers.

Our new play Ma Kelly Goes to the Games looks at healthy living and the fun that can be had making new friends and getting fit and active! An entertaining show with a serious message about fitness, health and independent living for the 50s - 70s and the misconceptions all generations have about each other. Supported by London Borough of Merton's Arts Development our aim with the show is to encourage the take up of physical activities. We want to work with partnership organisations who have the same objectives.

Ma Kelly Goes to the Games

by Jane James

Ma Kelly is happy avoiding her responsibilities towards her boisterous step-grandchildren and living an easy life; after all, she needn't get out of her chair... but it's quite lonely... until a young neighbour, Sakara turns up needing her help, and daughter Joan drops in and she's in tears, she's only fifty and the bus driver asked her for her bus pass!

The three decide to unite on a mission to be fitter and healthier. It doesn't sound much fun to Ma Kelly, but the results are hilarious and she ends up going to the Games!

Interwoven with songs, and a dance or two, you may find yourself wanting to join them...

Plus:
Tea and biscuits and the chance to have a go yourself to the strains of music from the sixties

Some reactions from the audience:

"Very educational, I need to start excercising more or I will be old before my time. The kids enjoyed it too"

"It was very funny, I felt happier after the show"

"Some of it rang a bell"

"I am now challenged to do more"

"It was very nice to see so many senior citizens in a happy mood"
